Decorative Plates

I love decorating with plates, especially when it comes to hanging a collection of them on a wall.  I have several sets of matching or complimentary plates I've acquired through the years, plus a few one-of-a-kind plates that are true treasures.  I will be redecorating two rooms in my home this year, and I plan to use a different set of plates in each room. 

 

Since most people associate plates with the kitchen, it's fun to see collections of plates hanging in other rooms as an element of the unexpected.  They look beautiful and perfectly at home in any room!

And in some cases, the plates don't need to be hung; just line them up in a row on a fireplace mantle or shelf.

 

I haven't displayed my decorative plate collections in a few years and I am so looking forward to seeing them again adorn the walls in my home!

Decorating at The White House ~ Private Dining Room

I love dining rooms.  Whether they are decorated for a special occasion or simply set for every day, use, there is always something grand about the dining room. 

Just as the White House bedrooms changed through the years, so did the First Family's private dining room.  And while the furniture is timeless, the decor certainly is representative of the era.

Interior Decorating at The White House

Since the Inauguration of the 44th President of the United States is less than a week away, I've been thinking about the stunning interior decorating that has taken place in The White House over the years.  In addition to watching the White House Christmas special on HGTV each year, there are numerous photographs of rooms in The White House that have been renovated and redecorated over time.  I've always loved seeing these rooms regardless of the season.   

Those who are old enough to remember the Kennedy era will recall that Jackie Kennedy hosted a televised tour of The White House called A Tour of the White House with Mrs. John F. Kennedy.  The documentary, which was filmed in black and white, took place on the evening February 14, 1962.  Mrs. Kennedy, a devout patron of the arts, had just completed a year long project to redecorate the White House in authentic furnishings and period pieces, restoring history to America's home.  Her project attracted exclusive network coverage.

The rooms in The White House that were redecorated by Mrs. Kennedy between 1960 and 1962 have been redecorated many times since then.  While much of the furnishings remain in place, fabrics and accessories have changed with the times.  Below are my favorite photographs of bedrooms in The White House.
